Young Life Golf TournamentLast Sunday, a group of adults and young adults came together at the Underwood Golf Complex in El Paso, Texas for a day of fun on the links at the Young Life Golf Tournament.

This group of people consisted of adults and kids that belong to Young Life in El Paso. The Young Life Golf Tournament was sponsored by Dick Poe Toyota and was organized by Young Life Coordinator, Kathleen “Kat” Luciano. The event was a huge success as many local businesses and individuals stepped up to support Young Life and the work it does for the children and young adults in the El Paso area.

History of the Program

For those of you who are not familiar with Young Life, it began in 1941 as a way to bring the positive influence of adults into the lives of children and young adults who may not have a positive adult role model. The multicultural ministry of Young Life focuses on kids who belong to culturally diverse communities and those who live in economically depressed areas. The age group for the kids involved in Young Life range from middle school to college age and any age in between. The children and young adults become members of what is called the Young Life Club.

Positive Role Models For Kids

Young Life leaders are adults that provide a positive role model for these kids and come from a variety of places as well. Young Life leaders can be college students, professionals, parents with or without children of their own and even retirees. The one thing that all Young Life leaders have in common is a desire to provide a positive role model for the future generations of their community, state and nation. Young Life leaders are volunteers who want to provide a child or young adult with someone they can turn to for advice, goal setting and even engage in learning and entertainment activities they may not have been able to participate in otherwise.

Young Life holds events such as the Golf Tournament last Sunday to bring attention to what Young Life is and what it can do to help the children and young adults of the community. Through the generous sponsorship of Dick Poe Toyota, the members and leaders of Young Life enjoyed a beautiful sunny El Paso Day on the golf course, and helped raise money to support everything that Young Life does.
