This year, Kelley Blue Book named the Toyota Prius c to its Cool Car List, making it officially one of the best compact cars around.

History of Kelly Blue Book

Kelley Blue Book has come a long way since its meager beginning as a Kelly Kar Company way back in 1918. Les Kelley started with three Model T Fords and one employee on a portion of a car lot in Los Angeles, California and now is the premier source for vehicle valuation information. The first Kelley Blue Book came out as a local publication in 1926 as a guide to used car values, went nationwide in the 1940s and added new car appraisals added in 1966. Today it features information on not only cars and trucks, but recreational vehicles, motorcycles and mobile homes as well. Kelley Blue Book is looked at as one of the premier vehicle valuation sources in the country, so it only makes sense that they use their expertise to create lists of some of the best vehicles available.

The Toyota Prius C

Red Toyota Prius CThe Toyota Prius C was given the “C” to indicate that it is the perfect city vehicle as it is small, economic and easy to park almost anywhere. The “c” has taken on a new meaning with KBB.com naming it to its “10 Coolest Cars under $25,000” list. While Toyota raised the bar when it introduced the Prius in 2000, it has created variations to appeal to anyone who is looking for a great hybrid vehicle. The Prius v was designed for those looking for a little more room for both cargo and family, while the Prius c was shortened to create a city-friendly vehicle for those who face the congested commutes and tight parking spaces every day. The Toyota Prius C also gives you city fuel economy of around 53mpg, making it the most efficient hybrid for city driving, and the 46 mpg you get when you take it on the highway is quite impressive as well. Although the Prius C is designed for the city commuter, it saves you money when you need to escape to the great wide open as well.

The Toyota Prius C is also quite well appointed for a vehicle with an MSRP of around $18,950. Standard features include an AM/FM/CD/MP3 sound system with a USB port for your smartphone or iPod, Bluetooth, a customizable 3.5-in multi-information display screen that monitors your energy use as well, steering wheel controls for the audio, climate and hands-free features and even a rear spoiler. It also features Toyota’s Star Safety system with stability and traction control, ABS brakes, brake-force distribution, brake assist and even the smart-stop feature. Add to these nine standardly equipped airbags and not only do you have a fun, economic car to drive, but a safe one as well.

Its Not The First Award

Coolest Cars Under $25,000Although being a part of the “Coolest Cars under $25,000” list is quite a distinction, this is not the first award that the Prius C has received. Recently it was named the most reliable vehicle in the industry by Consumer Reports for 2012. You have to admit that for the price, the Prius c gives you many more options, features and much better fuel economy than vehicles twice its price. Not only does it save you money up front at the pump, with its great mileage, driving a Prius c also gives you an increase in your paycheck since you are spending much less on gas to earn that paycheck. The Prius C was the second best-selling hybrid in the United States for October, only bested by its bigger relative, the Toyota Prius liftback.
