The redesign of the 2013 Toyota Avalon to get the looks from the younger crowd is just the beginning of the plan to take the car from a traditional mature luxury sedan, to a sporty yet still luxurious sedan.
Appealing To Younger Buyers
Many automakers, Toyota included, are trying to appeal to a younger group of buyers. With younger buyers becoming more of a consumer base for vehicle purchases in recent years, appealing to this crowd is a great marketing plan for every carmaker. The Avalon was used as the canvas for a few vehicle customizations featured by Toyota at the 2012 SEMA (Specialty Equipment Marketing Association) Show. By choosing the Avalon, Toyota shows what can be done with a production vehicle with parts already available through Toyota’s parts departments. While SEMA highlights aftermarket vehicle parts, many manufacturers like Toyota have various divisions, such as Toyota Racing Development that manufacture a complete line of factory Toyota parts and accessories. From a preview of the future hybrid Avalon decked out in “hybrid blue” and Bright White to the TRD (Toyota Racing Development) makeover, these two vehicles are sure to draw the attention of the younger crowd at SEMA and everywhere else.
The TRD Modified 2013 Toyota Avalon

The basis of the TRD modified Avalon is a stock 3.5-liter V6 powered model with a stock 6spd transmission. The first addition and one of the most common done by TRD was an Eaton Gen 6 TVS supercharger. Not only does the supercharger increase power without hurting fuel economy, it helps provide the driver with a more responsive driving experience as well. One benefit of the Toyota Avalon is that no modifications were needed under the hood to add the supercharger; it is a simple bolt-on addition. Adding extra power to the Avalon created the need to upgrade other components as well. The stock suspension was updated to a shorter spring/shock combination that brings the stance of the front of the Avalon about one inch closer to the ground, which allows for more responsive steering and a better road feel. Stronger, stiffer subframe bushings were added and the steering system was tuned to add to the high performance feel of the modified Avalon. To keep all this power on the ground and help it stop when you needed to, it was fitted with 19-in wheels and Michelin Pilot Super Sport 225/40/19 tires and one of TRD’s readily available Big Brake kits that feature heavy-duty calipers all around.
The Exterior
While the exterior of the 2013 Avalon is already redesigned, there was not much of a need for TRD to do many cosmetic changes to it. They created a custom look with a custom two-tone paint job, body color grille, tinted taillights and polished mufflers that led to chrome exhaust tips to round out the look. The interior of the Avalon did not require many updates either, but of course, TRD wanted to make the inside as stylish as the outside. By adding perforated leather seating with accent color stitching, a customized instrument panel and a high-tech custom JBL GreenEdge surround sound stereo system with 15 interior speakers and two trunk mounted amps, the inside of the TRD Avalon looks and sounds as good inside as it does outside.
